Workbench International are hosting a series of monthly webinars to connect with their user base. These free online sessions aim to showcase a new feature or a module of Workbench that users may not be aware of. The inaugural session takes place at 1pm on Tuesday 16th July 2024, on the subject of Project Trust Accounts and Retention Trust Accounts. This is a new feature that is especially pertinent to those Workbench users doing business in Queensland, but the legislation will undoubtedly be rolled out across Australia in the coming years. You are invited to join by clicking here to register.

Workbench International have invited a special guest to this event. Laura Hattin is the Principal Consultant at Building Trusts. With over seven years of experience deploying new legislation, Laura’s expertise covers the comprehensive Security of Payment Laws and the innovative Trust account framework applicable to both the QBCC and the Private Sector. Laura will be joining Justin Gardner and Maria Harreguy of Workbench International for this session. Together, they will guide you through the latest enhancements to Workbench, ensuring you are seamlessly aligned with the evolving trust requirements.

The 2021Q3 major release of Workbench is here. Check out the release note here:

RN-4.5.15-18Oct2021

Workbench International release a new version of the software on a two week cycle. However, once every quarter there is a major release that includes new functionality. For those clients on the Workbench International AWS environment, you will be upgraded to this version automatically and you may not even notice. That’s the attraction of Workbench as SaaS (Software as a Service) – importantly, you are always on the latest version of the software.

For those clients with Workbench installed on premise or hosted by GT Management, upgrades will be suggested to you at regular intervals. You can choose whether or not to have your version brought up to the latest version. If you see something in the release notes (you can access these from Web Workbench itself in the menu under your name at the top right corner of the screen) that you would like to take advantage of, let us know and we will bring you up to date.

“One of the secret benefits of using remote workers is that the work itself becomes the yardstick to judge someone’s performance” – Jason Fried, Author.

Our client base is a mixed bag of industries, so we have seen the effect of this pandemic situation in differing degrees. Some of our clients are involved in essential services and are therefore continuing as before, a number are in construction and civil engineering and business continues, albeit with restrictions and obstacles. We have also seen clients scale down their business and enter hibernation. Our thoughts go out to those who have lost their livelihoods as a result of this situation.

Those clients with Web Workbench hosted in the cloud will have been in a strong position when it comes to working remotely. Workbench software can be accessed anywhere and is designed to work on a tablet computer, a laptop or a desktop machine. Those using Upvise will have been able to continue working remotely with their mobile phone. So what does this mean when we come through the other side of this lockdown? Do we return to our old practices?

Working remotely has never been considered for some companies prior to 2020. Understanding that some tasks can be done even more efficiently off site may lead to more of our workforce seeking the flexible lifestyle that goes with working from home. There may even be downsizing of offices and hot-desking may become normality. Here at GT Management, we would like all of our clients to be ready for this shift in thinking. We have the software and we have the hosting platform available to make it possible.

Don’t hesitate. Talk to your consultant today.

“…but cash is king” – unknown.

At this present time of turbulence in business, this old adage is at its most relevant. To know or predict cashflow is of paramount importance as we navigate a volatile time. The Workbench contracts module allows us to forecast the final cost of a project on a monthly basis. This allows in turn a cashflow to be plotted into the future based upon the dollar amount yet to spend. The drawback, at this moment in time, is that the cashflow is based upon invoices as opposed to payments. Reporting a healthy revenue is great, until the revenue fails to be realised in terms of cash. Likewise, you may have processed Accounts Payable invoices for payment, but they are sitting in your financial system awaiting the cash with which to pay.

By harnessing the power of Sharperlight and Excel, we do have a solution. Introducing the variables of debtor and creditor ‘pace’ and bringing in other manual data, we can model the actual bank cashflow. Our trusted partner Nigel Evans of Translate IT explains the process in this document :

Cashflow Discussion

By the beginning of 2021, we hope to have most of our Workbench clients on the Web Workbench platform, leaving behind the comfort and familiarity of the desktop system. Taking this leap of faith can be daunting. What you are doing though is future-proofing your Workbench software system and unlocking a whole new world of automation.

Accessibility is a main driver to make the change to Web Workbench. Where you would previously be constrained to a desktop machine or a remote desktop connection, Web Workbench allows you to connect with your data from anywhere and using any web browser. Of course the choice of hosting platform and any internal security considerations will determine just how accessible your data is – hosting with GT Management or applying for a SaaS Web Workbench version with Workbench International will give you web access to your database from any location with internet.

An improved user interface gives Web Workbench a consistent look and feel. It is fresh and modern, as well as being intuitive to the first time user.

The automated processes of Xtracta AP Invoice processing, document approval workflow and API integration with MYOB, MYOB Advanced and Xero bring a whole new fluidity to the flow of data between your key systems. And of course with Upvise, a new universe of possibilities is unlocked for your field personnel.

And visibility of your data is improved with the implementation of the business intelligence tool Sharperlight. The ability to design your own reporting dashboards, delving into the underlying data of Workbench, is a game changer for those people looking for automated real-time management reports.

We’re excited to welcome you to Web Workbench. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from those of our client base who have made the change. Contact your consultant today to unlock further features of Workbench.

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” – T.S. Eliot

With Christmas, the New Year and Australia Day done and dusted for another 11 months, we now roll up our sleeves and get stuck in to 2020. This year will be a year of change for everyone involved in Workbench, with the desktop version (MDE) moving in to an end-of-life phase. A final release of the desktop version is pending (7.41.4) to address an ever decreasing list of requirements and requests. Once this is released, we begin the countdown to the end of 2020 when maintenance of the legacy product will officially end.

What does this mean to users of the desktop system?

The desktop system will continue to function as is on its current environment. GT Management will continue to support the desktop Workbench system. After all we have 20 years of knowledge in the product. As we have experienced already, the desktop system will be susceptible to changes in Microsoft Windows and Office products, and that will be out of our control.

So, with Stock Management and Quotations set to arrive in Web Workbench this year as a final migration of features from the desktop system, the path to a smooth transition from the legacy desktop system to the new world of Web Workbench rests in the users’ hands. We have 11 months. If you have not yet embraced Web Workbench, now is the time to get acquainted. Our consultants are ready to assist you with the migration from old to new.

Those clients running Web Workbench will attest to the increased functionality and much improved user interface that the product brings. The change will be worth it.
